sometimes it’s best to ask questions…

i’d like to preface this post by saying these words are directly related to a career crisis and not personal issues.

do you ever feel like you’re ready to shed your skin like a snake a rejuvenate a new healthier exterior?

yeah….me too.  and once i’ve decided on something so adamantly it’s hard for me to devote time and energy to anything else.  since a career is something you spend the majority of your life doing, these decisions can’t be made lightly or quickly.  that being said…..

a few things i believe in and need to start acting on:

1. there is far too little time to live life unhappy and unfulfilled.

2. once you decide you want change you must pursue it with as much fervor as you can muster before comfort settles in.

3. always recognize (and never apologize for) the way you feel.

is it really true that if you jump a net will appear?  can anyone weigh in on this saying? i’d like to make the jump sans net- and pray like hell that a net materializes, but my life experience (and parents voices echoing in my mind) tells me not to do it.  right now i have the equivalent of all the ropes to string together something resembling a net, but fighting this internal battle is becoming exhausting and i fear that the theoretical jump is sounding better and better every day that passes.

i’ll take any advice people are willing to give.  has anyone out there quit a job without having anything but their convictions set in stone to fall back on?

5 jobs that (could) make my heart happy

since i’m at a mental fork in the road in my current employment situation, i figured something fun and (semi)productive to do would be to list my 5 dream jobs…because let’s be honest- there’s a good chance that some of these jobs don’t exist…but who’s to say that i can’t create them some day.  anyways, i don’t even think i’m going to post this but i want to do it so here it goes…

1.  pinner extroadinaire

for any of you pinterest fanatics.  YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.  if i could spend all day and night pinning things, and creating vision boards, and creating the pins i pin, and blogging about it….oh boy.  look out world, i’m about to take you over and smother you in my creations.

2.  etsy shop owner/creater

now this one is definitely doable, and might i add- in the beginning stages.  starting in 2015 i am planning on building my inventory and making the dive into the world of etsy.  now why have i waited until now you ask…good effing question.  i blame it on my rational side that says etsy doesn’t provide me insurance, a steady salary, or a 401K. but what i’ve come to learn is that those things are not the creative mind’s bread and butter (so to speak).  creating is.  and so, since i’ve also come to find out my creative mind has grown to be much stronger than my rational/business mind…the answer is quite clear. #etsyhereicome #staytuned

3.  taste tester

if you can sit there and tell me that you’ve never volunteered your services as a taste tester to either your mom (while she’s making her buttery, flaky, “too good to be true” shortbread cookies), or your grandma (as she’s making her famous ham salad sandwiches) or the server at the restaurant you just can’t get enough of….then i can no longer be friends with you because i don’t need that kind of negativity in my life, ya feel me? i want to eat ALL OF THE FOODS and i want to get paid for it.

4.  yogi/yoga instructor

the obvious choice for a past dancer with a strong pull to move all the time and a strong spiritual practice.  i’d prefer to just take yoga classes all day rather than teach, but something tells me that: a. the pay might not be as good/existent at all, and b. i might not get as much out of it as i would if i were able to share my practice. so i will wait until my insides burst and i can’t bear to not be a yoga instructor for one more minute, and then…..i will become a yoga instructor.  but until that day comes my yoga mat will continue to be my sanctuary.

5. free lance photographer

because who doesn’t want to travel the world and take pictures and get paid for it.  (again…if you disagree i must ask you to cease all communication and move along.)

*DISCLAIMER: ideally all 5 of these dream careers could be combined into one excelsior job, but the author of this blog is somewhat in touch with reality and understands that it would be nearly impossible. (notice the use of the world “nearly”)*

so there ya have it guys, my 5 dream jobs.  go make your list, get it down on paper and out into the universe and then share it with me! i want to read about all of the amazing jobs that i wasn’t able to think of.

35 things i’m happy about right now…

so i follow this totally awesome, totally inspiring blog. (shout out to ma girl katygracefully)  it’s the only blog i’ve ever followed religiously.  her adventures, health tips, play lists, random thoughts, kick-ass workouts, and mouth-watering recipes keep me coming back for more.  why am i telling you all of this? because recently she posted a list of “35 things i’m happy about right now.”  why did she post this?  because -for some unknown reason- people can tend to be a little feisty during the holiday season and lose sight of how much they have in their lives to be grateful for.  so i’m using this as an exercise to help myself fight off the side effects of the inevitable traffic, questionable family dynamics, and excessive everything that’s to come in the next three weeks.  here we go…

1.  my family. (obviously)

2.  my sexy fiance and out studly pup.

3.  coffee that is keeping me awake after staying up to watch american horror story last night. (holy shit dandy mott….)

14.  the recent realization that my health is the most valuable thing i possess. (besides my family people)

15.  flannel sheets

16.  handmade knitware

17.  christmas lights

18.  fireplaces and the smell they emit into the air as you’re driving by someone who has one lit.

21.  bad television (i will not publicly admit to any of the bad television i am grateful for)

22.  christmas movies….all of them. (even the hallmark ones..)

23.  down jackets.  if you live somewhere that gets bone chilling-ly cold in the winter i highly recommend making the investment…it’s a game changer.

25.  elephants.

26.  all of the foods.

27.  spin class.

28.  yoga.

29.  green tea.

31.  my chiropractor, who has saved me multiple times from crippling pain.

32.  my faith.

33.  music.  (especially christmas music)

34.  art.

35.  the potential that tomorrow always holds….

so there you have it folks….my 35 things i’m extremely grateful for right now.

I challenge y’all to do the same so that you have some reference material for when weird uncle jasper is inadvertently spitting food particles at you while he’s talking during christmas dinner….

sometimes i forget to grow…

listen…life happens and we all tend to get stuck in the never-ending ebbs and flows that make up day to day living, however sometimes you have swim a little harder and break the incessant rhythm.  i, for one, have gotten and am currently stuck in said rhythm.  SO it’s time to do something about it.  what that “something” is is still undetermined (for me, personally), but here are a couple of ideas of how you can break out, move on, and grow a little…

1.  revisit your creative side. (even if you don’t think you have a creative side)

it’s my favorite thing to go back to because it’s always there waiting for you wherever you are (mentally, physically, geographically, or otherwise) and it always contains an unlimited amount of potential and growth. you can never over-create. we live in a world with internet access almost everywhere.  an opulent wealth of inspiration peeking at us through iphone screens, google searches, and (my favorite) pinterest home pages.  so go find a cookie to bake, or a new make up technique, or a new crochet project, or a new outfit to assemble with what you have in your closet, or simply commit yourself to an hour of exploring creative ideas.  i promise you that you will find growth.  and no matter how big or small- growth is growth, and creativity presents itself in an infinite number of forms.

2.  move.

stop sitting down, being tired, and waiting to go back to sleep everyday.  it’s winter – which means it’s dark at 4 o’clock and seasonal depression has not only hit, but it’s made itself at home in your psyche. so i get it, it’s not easy – the uphill battle waits for us at the end of every october, and it’s a persistent mother effer.  but, if you’re able to put on your big girl (or boy) pants and commit to starting a routine your mind, body, and soul will thank you.  it can be as big as training for a marathon for next spring, or as small as deciding to get up and vacuum the house, or put away the laundry, or clean out your car (i find housework to be the hardest and most rewarding type of exercise).  get the blood circulating and the mind awake and you might find you’re able and wanting to do more than you would have expected.

now if you’re feeling ambitious, i would recommend combining the two initiatives together and seeing where you end up.  i’d be willing to bet it’s somewhere that’s a little more aware, a little more appreciated, and a little less lethargic and complacent.  your health is the most valuable asset you possess and it deserves to be invested in. (in my humble opinion)

if you’re perfectly happy to be lethargic and complacent, there is zero judgement over here on my side of the screen and rock on wit your bad self. as a matter of fact- the only reason i wrote this post is to exercise my creativity (practice what you preach or whatever…) i’m assuming i can’t be the only human out here that feels this way and that there’s a good possibly that there’s a community of us that probably need a little fire under our asses around this time of the winter to maintain sanity and this is my attempt at sparking it.

go eat, drink, and be merry you sexy beasts you. (and maybe move a little afterwards)

sometimes you just need a little vacation…

it’s about time i share some of my most exciting developments, especially since i have left y’all high and dry for a few months now. justin and i are enjoying our summer stay-cation to the absolute fullest. this week has been one of the most eye-opening, life-having, regret-less times of my life.

i know what you’re can you possibly have those kind of moments in central connecticut. i’m here to tell you- the only way to have these moments in any place is to surround yourself with the people who will allow them to happen.

people and friendships haven’t been a top priority for me for quite a while now, mainly because i was in need of some major healing from some past events in my life. i, unfortunately, learned (at a young age) that sometimes the closest people in your life aren’t always as genuine as you’d hope. i think i’ve been struggling with the fall out of this for years now and have just finally realized the full extent of what it’s done to me in regard to my relationships (or lack thereof) with others.

so now..with forgiveness, time, and a whole lot of support from people i didn’t always deserve it from, i feel like a brand new woman with a brand new opportunity to nurture friendships that i know i deserve. i have a confidence i don’t think i’ve ever had before in my life, and i refuse to turn down any potential that finds itself in my lap. (see below for said potential, opportunities, and friendships) sometimes all you need is a little vacation…

anyway. spread love and open that mind, who knows what’s waiting on the other side.

i will never stop being a foodie…

i just had to share my homemade lunch with you guys…this was one of my most favorite flavor combos and i highly recommend giving it a try.

before you, you have: 2 morning star spicy black bean patties, topped with sweet onions, melted shredded monterey jack cheese, field greens, siracha, and salsa all wrapped up in a warm cheddar jalepeno tortilla.

the perfect amount of spice and the most perfect combination of textures to provide the most satisfying midday meal.

more veggies = more fun. eat up!
